  1/31 New Year Celebration
Dear OCS students, parents, teachers , volunteers and friends,

As the Chinese New Year of the Monkey draws near, OCS will hold a Chinese New Year Celebration
on January 31, 2016. You are cordially invited to join us for the celebration!

Event Date: 1/31/2016

Location: Ohio Chinese School, 935 Northridge Rd. Columbus OH 43224

Activities:

1. Lunch 11:45-12:30, Cafeteria

OCS students will receive a free meal and a lucky money red envelope.
Parents and visitors can buy meals at a nominal cost.

2. Performance 1:00-3:00, Gym

Featuring performances by OCS students and teachers, including children’s songs, drama, dance,
Guzheng, Kung-fu, etc.

3. Speech Contest Award Ceremony, at the end of Performance , Gym

Class Arrangements on 1/31:

1. All classes in the gym are cancelled;
2. All morning classes which end before 12:00 noon will have classes AS NORMAL before heading to the
performance;
3. All classes that start after 3:00 pm will have classes AS NORMAL after the performance;
4. All classes which conflict (in whole or in part) with the 12:00-3:00 time period are cancelled;
5. Please watch for further instructions from your children’s teachers as to when and where to meet
before the performance. Contact your children’s teachers if you have any questions about the class arrangements.

  2015 Halloween
Dear Ohio Chinese School students and parents:

It is Halloween season. Last year's Halloween celebration was a big success,
and now it's coming back bigger than ever! OCS is planning the 3rd Halloween celebration
this coming Sunday 10/25:

1. When: October 25，2015 Sunday, 11:45am-2:00 pm
2. Where: Ohio Chinese school - 935 Northridge Rd. Columbus OH 43224
3. What: All OCS students, the family members and friends are welcome.
Treats, haunted hallway, games etc. Students are welcome dress in their Halloween costumes to school,
there will be costumes contest 11:45am- 12:30 pm & 1:30 - 2:00 pm:

Operating Rules: Each student will get two orange stickers at entrance and you can put
one sticker to the costume you like the most. Based on how many stickers you get,
several winners will be elected:

1st place: 1 winner
2nd place: 2 winners
3rd place: 4 winners

Winners will get rewards and have pictures taken and published on school website.

Attention parents and students:
- Guns, knives and other threatening weapons are prohibited.

Fall semester classes, consisting of 16 weeks, will begin on Sunday, August 23rd,
which will also be the day of our open house.

2015-2016 OCS Scholarship :
Up to $100 --- $100 for registered Chinese class or $50 for non-Chinese classes.
Not apply to adult classes.
Scholarships are limited, and will be awarded to the first 150 registered students.

  2015 First Day
Tree of Life (TOL) is a K-12 4-campus, private school.
The main campus we selected has more spacious classrooms.
It has a computer room, music room, arts room, dining and multipurpose room,
multi-functional gymnasium, and external playground.

TOL location is convenient (15 minutes from Dublin, 10 minutes from Worthington),
it is close to the Chinese church, Chinese grocery stores, the highway, library,
international grocery store, and Vietnam grocery store. We believe our new campus can satisfy
not only the needs for teaching and class selection,
but also bring more convenience to parents and students.

Ohio Chinese School is partnering with BWS Education Consulting to offer a complete series of ACT / SAT test preparation workshops in this upcoming spring semester. Please share this great news to your friends and families. Click here for registration.

      Fall Registration Now Available
    Dear students, parents, and friends in central Ohio:

    Hope you all had a wonderful summer! I’m pleased to let you know that registration for Fall 2014 at the Ohio Chinese School (OCS) has begun!

    OCS was founded a year ago. We started with only a few staff members, and grew to a school that offered over 60 courses, with more than 50 teachers and over 260 students. During the past year, the students and parents of OCS came to school every Sunday not only to learn Chinese, math, arts and sports, but also to share a sense of community together. As a member of the OCS family, you witnessed our birth, our commitment, and our growth. Now we’re in position to move steadily forward. At the end of last semester, we sought suggestions and feedback from parents, and adjusted our course offerings and schedules for the new school year. We’re offering more class choices for various age groups, especially for those who wish to take more Chinese, enrichment and activity classes. The new schedules will also make it easier for parents to drop off and pick up their children. Our Chinese course offerings include Ma Liping Chinese, JiDa Chinese, Pre-K and Kindergarten Chinese, Chinese culture, classics and idioms. For enrichment classes, you can choose from math courses for grade 1 through 11, Speech and Debate, English Reading and Writing, Hands-On Electronics, Video Game Programming, and SAT exam prep. We also offer activity classes of arts and crafts, dance, yoga, table tennis, basketball, badminton, kongfu, taichi, etc. Committed to making OCS a platform for education, entertainment and services for the Chinese and multi-cultural families in central Ohio, we also offer Fitness Club for Adults, Senior Activities Center, and Family Service Center.

      5/4 Free SAT Test Results & Consultation
    新东方 OCS provided a FREE SAT Assessment and Diagnostic Test on Sunday, April 20, 2014. The test was provided by OCS summer program SAT instructor Brian Stewart. There were twenty two students took the test to practice their SAT test skills.

    Brian Steward has finished grading and is on the process of completing the writing evaluations. Students who took the tests can come to OCS school site on May 4 to receive their test results and discuss the feedbacks.       2014 Spring Teachers Conference Has Successfully Concluded
    姗姗来迟的春天，伴随这复活节的喧闹气氛，新东方中文学校举办了2013-14学年的第三次教师交流会议。春光明媚的周末，伴随鸟语花香，香喷喷烤肉、美食和点心，老师们轻松愉快的交流，为教师研讨会提前做了准备。

    新东方教师研讨会，由教务长于鸿远老师主持，张校长首先发言表示，已经获得十万美金的教育奖励基金的捐赠，该捐赠款将陆续用于“新东方中国文化奖学金”、“新东方优秀学生奖学金”。

    张校长总结新东方工作时说：从2013年7月中，第一次管理团队电话会议开始，到8月19日开学第一天，就得到了250多位学生和家长，60多位老师的支持和鼓励；2014年春季学生人数还增加了10%，还增加了课程和家长俱乐部活动内容。新东方中文学校注重教学质量，注意探讨与时俱进教学方法、提高学生学习中文和中国文化的兴趣。学校组织的中秋/国庆、春节庆祝活动，更是在学生和家长与学校之间，建立起一个“大家庭”的中国文化环境。新东方中文学校设立的中国课程，很多是哥伦布地区中文教育环境中 首次开出的，其中有：中文《弟子规》、中国文化《三常》、《快乐电子》等，还包括家长俱乐部的、儿童教育、家庭菜园、家庭服务等，深受学生和家长的欢迎。

    新东方的中文教学以寓教于乐的教学方法，让孩子和家长一起参与教学：九位学生参加《侨报作文比赛》，中文八年级同学郭瑶玉，在二千多名学生中脱颖而出，赢得优秀作文奖。马立平五班的学生们所自排自演的“三打白骨精”节目，还将走上俄亥俄亚洲节的舞台。《弟子规》和《中国文化三常》，更是引起俄亥俄州立大学东亚系的关注，双方将继续探讨中国文化教学的新思路和方法。

    新东方中文学校成功申请到中国国家汉办的HSK哥伦布地区唯一一个考点，为衡量海外中文教学创建一个新的平台，目前已经完成5月新东方HSK四级考试的考点报名工作，等待迎考。同时已经申请11月举行四～六级的HSK考试，同时开放哥伦布地区考生报名。

    新东方的文体课程不断翻新内容，手工、绘画、舞蹈、乒乓、羽毛球、瑜伽、摄影、古筝、吉他等，不仅有学生报名参加，家长也积极参与，课程从一个班增加到二个班。举办的乒乓球赛、手工作品比赛互动参与积极，让学生和家长兴奋不已。

    张校长同时感谢学校的近60位教师和家长义工志愿者群策群力、认真付出，在大家的共同努力下，新东方将为哥伦布地区的华裔家庭提供一个更加温暖如春、和谐交流的中国文化互动平台，为孩子们提供一个良好的学习环境。

    教务长于鸿远总结了教学组的工作情况，王建梅老师介绍了即将开始的夏令营课程和项目，阎恒老师介绍了奖学金申请和新东方中文学校经费计划。老师们分组讨论会上，大家积极发言，中文组就如何将新东方建成一所“利学、利民”的中文学校，能够更加贴合学生和家长的诉求，以及奖学金评选项目提出了很好的建议；文体组讨论在苗永杰老师带领下，大家在肯定现有教学计划的同时，踊跃提出新的建议和将在新学年开始的各类活动，确定将文体活动与中国文化相融合，更好地为孩子们创造一个中国文化学习的氛围。英数教学组和依凡老师共同探讨华裔子女英数教学的特点、受欢迎的课程、以及学生志愿者的协调等话题。与会讨论的老师们都非常愉快，表示非常喜欢这样的交流和讨论机会，大家一致表示：愿意与新东方中文学校一起，为了孩子们能够真正学到有用的知识而努力。

    教师研讨会期间，教务人员强调，强化教学质量管理、认真完成日常教学和学生及家长管理、注重老师和学生、家长的沟通和交流遵守学校的规章制度，共同建立良好的学习环境。

    2014年5月，新东方中文学校的第一届毕业生即将通过HSK考试，圆满毕业。5月18日，一场 别开生面的新东方首届毕业生毕业典礼将如期举行。我们期待，新东方中文学校，将继续面对红红火火的暑期文化课程、暑期小记者俱乐部、暑期文化艺术俱乐部和暑期SAT强化班。我们期待，2014年秋季新增加的课程，会受到哥伦布地区更多的华裔家庭的关注。

    The school schedules the yearbook picture taking on April 27 and May 4 for each student. The Ohio Smile Studio will be on-site and set it up in the family room.

    新东方 OCS is offering a FREE SAT Assessment and Diagnostic Test this coming Sunday. 诊断性测试　免费测试评估。The test is provided by the instructor Brian Stewart. A FREE evaluation report will be provided after the test. This service is OPEN FOR EVERYONE who is interested.

     4/4/14 OCS as an Official HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) Exam Center
    OCS has successfully applied and been approved by Hanban as an official HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) exam center, which makes us the first and only HSK exam center in Ohio.

    This not only enables OCS to assess its own students by an international standard, but also allows us to provide HSK examination services to other students at colleges, high schools or heritage schools from Ohio and other states in the US.

    All OCS graduating class students have signed up for the official exam, which will take place in May.

     3/23/14 12-2PM Workshop on “how to have a great vegetable garden“
    12 - 2 PM： We are very pleased that Mr. Guan Zhen will be at OCS to conduct a workshop on “how to have a great vegetable garden in your own backyard“. Several of the famed gardeners in the Columbus area will be present to share their experience as well. There will be a seed exchange after the workshop. Please bring with your extra seeds/cuttings for exchange. Special thanks to Prof. Gao for providing flower and vegetable seeds.

     New Class Introduction -- “Yoga for Men“, an 8-week series course
    Staring from this Sunday from 3: 00-3: 50 pm, “Yoga for men“ 8-week series course will be held in the Family Room. Free drop-in class on March 16th. Come and try it out. Class content: include breathing technique, building up muscle strength and flexibility through various postures, learning how to move the body in a healthy way in daily life.

     March Health Fair 3/9/14
    When: March 9, 2014, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
    What: 新东方 OCS will host a Health Fair provided by Ohio Asian American Health Coalition and funded by CDC. FREE health screening for Hepatitis B and Diabetes will be done on site, as well as blood pressure measurement. Help will be on hand to help you to enroll in ObamaCare.

    新东方OCS will again open for classes this Sunday, 2/23/2014, as planned.

    The 2014 OCS Summer Program is the first and only Chinese Summer Program in central Ohio. This Summer Program has a wide range of Chinese language and culture courses for both heritage and non- heritage students.

    Dear OCS students, parents,teachers and volunteers,

    Year 2013 is past. Ohio Chinese School is welcoming Chinese Lunar New Year-the year of the horse. Ohio Chinese School will host its first Spring Festival celebration on January 26th, 2014. We are inviting you- students, parents, teachers, and volunteers- to come participate in this all day event. Let's cheer for our children's performances and contests on the stage, together enjoy the fun games, and most importantly celebrate our Spring Festival with a larger family!

    Informative Day (Open House) on 12/1/2013
    Dear Parents, Students and Teachers,

    Come and join us for an exciting and informational Day!

    We are asking all parents and students to invite your friends to come to our school on Dec 1st 2013. You can visit any of the classrooms and talk to our staff members. You will be able to find out about our current programs and what we will be offering in the upcoming year!

    We have many exciting new courses that will be available for the current students and new students.

    The sample courses are:
    Math course for High school students already in AP math classes, this course will help them to prepare the AP exam in May.

    College entry exam preparation course-- for students who are planning on taking Pre-SAT, Pre-Act, SAT and ACT exams.

    Additional Chinese Language courses to complete our Chinese Language study program.

    Other new exciting courses including: Game programing and playing, Preforming Arts, and other recreational (Basketball) courses etc.

    We Will Also Hold an Exciting Workshop for All the Adults. The topic is: Body Sculpturing.

    “What is the correct body posture? Do you want to learn how to exercise correctly to increase core strength? Please come to learn some strengthening exercise moves for people with busy schedules with Ms. Song!”

    By leaving you and your friends' contact information at the front desk, you will be entered in a raffle drawing at the end of the school day to win a prize. This information will be used to contact the winners.
